Fishing during lockdown

When I first met Nick and he became our first Project Officer for the Bioprocessing project, we quickly discovered that we both loved fishing. Nick confessed he hadn't been for a long time. I was sat in costa on camp with him having lunch and saw him struggling to eat. I was very worried and not long after that Nick found out what it was. Drew and myself were right behind Nick and we sent him fishing mags to keep him going through the chemo along with updates on the project. We had a glimmer of hope when we thought Nick had beaten it but then then worst news came and seemingly all at once, lock down happened. I am clinically extremely vulnerable to and was missing the fishing. I brought a practi-caster to practice fly casting. It is a rod with string and velcro trout so there's no barbed hooks involved :). I sent a video to Nick of me in my garden doing it thinking it would be gentle exercise for him and within a week I had some great pics that Nick sent of Tilly and Archie casting (way better than me I might add!) in the garden with their own practi-caster. I said to Nick then we have the next England fly team right there! :) Then to hear that Archie had caught his first trout in Dartmoor brought a tear to my eye and gave me a massive sense of pride. I feel so happy and so great full that Nick was able to teach Archie and Tilly to fly fish. Tight lines to you Archie and Tilly and maybe you could teach your mum to :) Sending thoughts and hugs to you all, Nick will be missed so much, I always enjoyed catching up with him. A completely amazing man that will never be forgotten. Rest easy now Nick xx
